You can get a broad understanding and appreciation of local ceramics at the quirky Museu da Cerámica or visit the famous Bordallo Pinheiro museum and shop. Visit Caldas on a weekday morning and you’ll catch the colourful flower, fruit and vegetable market in Praça da República. Afterwards, you could take a stroll around the pretty Dom Carlos I Park, have a picnic amid the trees or hire a rowing boat to spend time on its lake

Nazaré

Nazaré, once a sleepy fishing village on the Portuguese coast that's now the epicentre of global big wave surfing. Today, it's a place where the smell of grilling fish and the echo of booming surf filter through the narrow cobbled streets. A place where, during winter, the planet’s bravest surfers come to find glory – to break big wave world records.

The medieval town of Obidos

Surrounded by a city wall, a walk through the city centre feels like a walk back in time. Óbidos is a historic village, decorated with cobblestone paths and whitewashed homes. It is a small peaceful town, definitely worth the stopover for a night away from the big cities.

WINE

The unique micro climates of the Silver Coast mean there are several wine regions within this area, which is good news if you fancy touring a winery and doing a spot of wine tasting. Special experiences include wine tasting in a windmill and an original brandy distillery in the 18th century family-run Quinta do Sanguinhal.

The proximity to the ocean means you’ll never be in short supply of fresh seafood on the Silver Coast. Add some world-class olive oil, and you’ve already got a recipe for success no matter where you decide to dine. With countless authentic family restaurants, fine dining establishments, cafes and bars, great food is never far away.
